Yet another successful Blue Recovery Beach Day!
This was our third event and we have certainly got into the swing of things. Falmouth’s Tunnel Beach was again home to inviting shimmering rock pools hiding incredible marine life.
Our morning started once again at the fantastic Princess Pavilion, where we greeted those taking part and signed them up to The Rock Pool Project. We got the day kickstarted with the classic Blue Recovery Wildlife Quiz where our groups had a great time learning about all the amazing creatures that they might discover down on the beach.
It was a bit overcast but that didn’t deter the enthusiasm for exploring the rock pools. Our adult citizen scientists, led by one of our experts, conducted a classic BioBlitz survey – searching for all different sorts of marine life. The families enjoyed some lively ‘rock pool bingo’ with some very excited kids. It was amazing to see and watch the thrill they had whilst finding crabs, anemones, and even Cornish sucker fish! There were lots of awesome finds from our Rock Pool Bingo Teams which can be seen below!
Afterwards, we headed back to the Princess Pavilion with some fascinating marine wildlife for our water tanks, and of course to enjoy our lunch of Sausage Rolls, stew and soup which were much needed. Time passes quickly when you are investigating rock pools and the sea air certainly builds up an appetite.
The Falmouth team would like to say a big thank you to those who came along as well to our staff and volunteers who are making these days a real success. And of course a big thank you to Sarah Bellis for taking brilliant photos of the day!
