Cloudy skies couldn't stop us from See(ing) Our Shore
Over the Summer months (May to August) our Beach Days will be a little different. With the addition of our Mobile Rock Pool, we introduce ‘See Our Shore’ Beach Days.
‘See Our Shore’, as the name suggests, is about giving everyone – our rock poolers, team, and the public – a chance to get a closer look at the wondrous wildlife right on our doorstep.
As Summer is (hopefully) right round the corner, Blue Recovery has hosted its first ‘See Our Shore’ day in Plymouth.

We started the day at the fantastic Mount Batten Watersports & Activities Centre. With our much loved Species ID Quiz done and dusted, we made our way to Mount Batten Beach.
At the Beach
Arriving on the beach, we were greeted by our marvellous Mobile Rock Pool ready and waiting for our See Our Shore day. But before that, we had some rock pooling to do!
Making our way down the shore, keeping an eager eye on and under every rock, we explored Mount Batten’s rock pools.

See Our Shore
It was worms galore for ‘See Our Shore’!
One of the most amazing finds of the day was made by one of our budding rock pool explorers. Never found before at Mount Batten Beach, a Candy Striped Flatworm was an absolute show stopper! Well done to Maisie for finding it! (See the Candy Striped Flatworm, bottom right.)
But it was not just us that wanted a closer look. As part of ‘See Our Shore’, we encouraged anyone on the beach to come over and have a look and for our rock poolers to show off what they had found and had learned. They did a fantastic job!
The Mobile Rock Pool was a great way for everyone to have a closer look at all the wonderful and curious creatures.

After returning all the wildlife back to its rock pool homes, we made our way back up to the Mount Batten Centre for some much deserved cake and coffee. Finishing off another spectacular rock pooling session, with some truly special and mesmerising finds, we looked back on some of the best finds of the day.
Thank you to everyone who came along, it was truly great to see so many people enjoying the wonderful marine wildlife that lives on Plymouth’s rocky shore.
A very special thank you to one of our amazing volunteers, Beth Phelps, who took some equally amazing photos of the day!
