Basked in beautiful Spring, almost Summer, sunshine, Plymouth had its second wonderful Blue Recovery Beach Day recently!
Our Blue Recovery community is growing here in Plymouth. In beautiful sunshine we were joined by both new and familiar faces for our April Beach Day.
Mount Batten Beach was once again a treasure trove of mesmerising marine life. It seemed as though the beach knew it was Easter weekend, and laid out its very own egg hunt! Take a look at some of them in our image reel below!
Mustering at the Mount Batten Watersports & Activities Centre for introductions and the ever popular wildlife quiz, we soon began our day’s rock pooling, heading along to the shore.
Our group of Adult Citizen Scientists took part in a Crustacean Bioblitz survey, documenting all kinds of cool crustaceans from charismatic crabs to bountiful barnacles. Meanwhile, our Rock Pool Families explored the rocky shore, playing our very own Rock Pool Bingo – discovering slippery saw wrack seaweed to edible ‘pasty’ crabs!
After a great time on the beach, peering under rocks and catching sight of the watery worlds held in the shimmering rock pools, we carefully made our back up to the Mount Batten Centre with some of the amazing creatures everyone had found for a closer look.
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along and took part in our Blue Recovery Beach Day and also to our amazing team of staff and volunteers who helped make the event crabsolutely fantastic for everybody involved!
We loved the images and film recorder by Brett Lockwood and Ryan Cheetham from Fotonow, who were a joy to work with. Check them some of their images below – as well as some of the wonderful wildlife photos taken by our Blue Recovery participants with our waterproof cameras.
