Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire Hub

Located on the Solent at the eastern end of Lee-on-the-Solent is a shallow sloping sand and shingle beach. The area attracts a wide range of marine life and is part of the Solent and Southampton Water Ramsar site, as well as being a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), making it a perfect site for both beginners and experienced rock poolers to explore.

Event meeting point

The gazebo will be set up to the right of the top of the Elway Slipway, where the slipway crosses Solent Beach Path. From Elmore Car Park there are no steps and the surface is tarmacked.

Notes on accessibility

From Elmore Car Park there are no steps and the surface is tarmacked. Access to the shore is via a reasonably steep shifting stony sloping beach, or alternatively via the Elway Slipway to the waters edge.

How to find us:

Getting there by road

Lee-on-the-Solent is accessed from the M27, with the nearest largest towns being Fareham and Gosport. Marine Parade is the main coastal route through Lee and has car parks along its length. The beach is accessed via Elmore Car Park at the eastern end of Marine Parade.

Getting there by foot

The beach can be accessed from Elmore Car Park which is located off Marine Parade East (the main road through Lee). The nearest bus stop is a 5 min walk away further east along Marine Parade.

Getting there by public transport

You can access Lee-on-the-Solent by bus, primarily the X5 service which runs directly from Southampton, Fareham, Gosport, and Portsmouth. Alternatively, you can take a train to the nearest station, Fareham, and then catch a connecting bus to Lee-on-the-Solent. Fareham to Lee-on-the-Solent is a direct bus journey that runs frequently. The nearest bus is close to Ryde Place further east along Marine Parade and is a 5 min walk to the site.

Lee-on-the-Solent has a large expanse of beach, with lots of opportunities to explore marine life along its entire length of approximately 2 miles. Combined with the lively sea front area makes it a great place to spend the day.
